Beer Lahai Roi
For most of us we’ve heard the story a million times in Sunday school. It’s found in Genesis chapter 16. You know the one where Rachel gets jealous of Hagar, Hagar runs away, encounters God and then returns back to Abraham and Rachel who despised her. But how many times after hearing this story have we realized that we are Hagar? That we might be the one’s running away? That we might be the one who is fleeing from danger, discomfort, or fear? It was in this retreat that Hagar encountered God. In was in the midst of running away from her problems that she says she saw God and God saw her, that is why she named the place Beer Lahai Roi (pronounced be-ayr’ lakh-ah’ee ro-ee). Maybe some of you are running from your problems today, maybe you feel like you are beinig mistreated. Maybe you’re scared, full of fear and anxiety, maybe you’re not the popular one, maybe you’re hurting and lonley, maybe everything about Hagar’s disposition is something you can relate to. I pray that if any of the previous maybe’s describe you today that you would have an encounter with God, that you would seek the place of Beer Lahai Roi.
