3 Ways to Get Out of Your Funk
We’ve all been there. It’s called a funk. We either find ourselves unmotivated, irritable, and just not ourselves. What exactly triggers these funks? Depends on who you ask. But I strongly believe regardless of what it is that has you feeling stagnant there are actions we can take to defeat the funk. Allow me to suggest 3 things that I believe will help:
1. Change of Scenery-Get out of your office, walk around for a little bit, go for a drive, get out of the house. Turn off the televisions. Put down the video games. Do something to break up the monotony. Monotony is often times the very thing that drives us into a funk, so in order to break the funk, we need to break the monotony.
2. Positive Conversation: Go have a positive conversation with someone you don’t normally talk to. Notice I said positive. Also notice I said someone you don’t normally talk to. Conversations with unfamiliar people can often serve us the greatest encouragement and provide us with that little extra dose of encouragement we needed to hear. “Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” (Proverbs 16:24)
3. Refresh Yourself in the Gospel: It would be wise to remind ourselves of the Gospel daily. We don’t just need the Gospel for salvation, we need the reminder of the Gospel every day. The word Gospel literally means Good News. And I believe Good News is often the best recipe for getting one out of a funk. The Word refreshes our soul unlike anyone or anything else can. I have often found during times I’ve been in my worse funks, it is the Gospel that rescues me. It is the Gospel that pulls me from the muck and mire, it is the Gospel that refreshes my bones. “The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and good news refreshes the bones.” (Proverbs 15:30) Allow the Good News of the Gospel to refresh your bones today as it has the power to pull you from the worst of funks.
